Arsenal's record scorer Ian Wright, now with ITV and Celtic, is to be rewarded for "services to Association football"
with an MBE in the New Year honours list.
On 13th September 1997 Ian scored a hattrick against Bolton
(see ArseWeb reports) which took him past Cliff Bastin's record of 178 Arsenal goals.
Ian finished his Arsenal career on 185 goals, a record which may
never be beaten.
Another notable record: in the 1994-95 season Ian scored in
10 successive games, beating a 63 year old club record set by
David Jack.
The other extraordinary thing about Ian's Arsenal career is that he scored on almost every conceivable debut (see Wright page
lined to below for list). I don't know about
other clubs but I'm pretty sure that he scored on his West Ham and
Celtic debuts too.
See our Ian Wright page
for more Wright stuff. |
