John Hartson's move to Tottenham has been
aborted following a medical. Spurs statement
reads "John Hartson has had a thorough medical
this morning and as a result we have reluctantly decided not to proceed at
this moment with the transfer of the player to Tottenham Hotspur, having
agreed terms with both Wimbledon on Saturday evening and John Hartson
yesterday."
For "has had a thorough medical" read "was put on the scales".
Personally I am disappointed. Although it's a shame to see
an ex-Arsenal humiliated in this way (not even good enough for
Tottenham, wow!), I saw it as first confirmation of my "George Graham's
leaving Spurs" rumour, first aired in January, which involves
him gathering some nice going-away presents for them like
he did for us. See this article. It would
have been all the more poetic if one of those presents was the same as one he gave us! In fact, I was all set to start a "Spurs to sign Glenn Helder" rumour.
Also, presumably another £7million move for the Welsh
"wizard" would have moved him quite high up the list
of all-time most expensive footballers (cumulative version).
By my reckoning it'd even take him past David Platt who is
currently 4th in the FootballTransfers list!
Who'd have thought it?
