We're indebted to the frequently funny Football365 Mediawatch for spotting a genuinely touching moment in Stephen Hughes's debut for Everton at the weekend.
Walter Smith decides to make a substitution. So he asks the nice man with the electronic sign to display a '23'. Seeing the fateful digits, Hughesy trots back towards the touchline...
... Only to be reminded that he doesn't wear the number 23 any more - that honour is held by Joe Max Moore. Hughesy was duly informed that he's now wearing the much less glamorous 18 shirt. Cute.
