Check out the new Nicolas Anelka website at
www.anel2ka.com.
The site is high on Flash, and the "2" in the name is intended
to have some sort of resonance with "y2k", I think. It's
a wonderfully pretentious attempt to keep the myth ahead of reality. For football fans who don't actually watch the game.
"Time does not affect the game of soccer. Soccer does not
impose a threat on time. Yet the game is constantly evolving.
A new year, a new decade, a new century or a new millenium -
what is the difference? blah blah blah zzzzzz...entertainment is
guaranteed by the One-Man Armies - the players full of confidence,
urged on by a resilient attitude to show everyone what performing in
front of a sell-out crowd is all about.... The year 2000 is the stage
where those few One-Man Armies will rise or fall..."
And so on. But watch out. Chances are that by December he'll be saying that the year 2001 is actually the year he's always wanted to play in.
Look out for the Bio page, where it states that his 3 goals in 2 games in the World Club championships "guaranteed him
as a leading star". Doesn't mention the fact that he was desparate for those
goals having been a total flop at Real, or that
the first was a total fluke which he knew nothing about.
Also worth a quick look is this page which carries the transcript of Anelka's web chat
(carefully scheduled to coincide with our UEFA cup match last week) on FoxSports.com. It gets off to a splendid start when
he is asked "what is the best team you ever played for?" and
replies "Bayern Munich".
