Giant-killers Grimsby have been rewarded for their
3rd round Worthington Cup win over Liverpool, with a 4th round
tie away to either Arsenal or Manchester United.
The Arsenal vs Man Utd match is to be played
on Wednesday November 7th at
Highbury, postponed thanks to a domino effect from September 11th (United's European match scheduled for the 12th was postponed to the Wednesday just gone, when the League Cup game
would otherwise have been played).
Grimsby staged an amazing comeback at Anfield last week. Like many people I'm sure, when the soporific Coventy-Chelsea game finished I switched the radio on to listen to extra time from
Anfield. And I bet I'm also not the only person who switched it off again when an apparently totally dominant Liverpool finally went ahead. It was only when I read the paper the next day
that I discovered Grimsby had scored an equaliser, and then
got a winner in the last minute with a spectacular 35-yarder.
Still, it's probably a fair bet that whoever gets through out
of Arsenal and Man Utd will field a weaker team in the 4th round than they did in the 3rd! Will either Premiership side gamble and play inexperienced youngsters against their biggest rivals?
The 4th round matches are due to be played in the week of November 26th. The plum tie is Chelsea's trip to Elland Road,
other all poremiership ties being Newcastle-Ipswich, Bolton-Southampton, and Fulham-Tottenham.
