Further to yesterday's detailed analysis of the possibilities for today, the squad for the semi-final second leg against Tottenham has been announced and it's very much as expected.
There are 4 changes to the squad for the first leg. The injured Julio Baptista, Emmanuel Eboue and Alexander Hleb are omitted, along with Mark Randall (not sure why in his case, but I'm guessing Wenger just decided to go with more experience). In come four first-choice first-teamers in Gilberto, Gael Clichy, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Tomas Rosicky.
Expected line-up...
Almunia
Hoyte Toure Senderos Traore
Walcott Gilberto Denilson Diaby
Adebayor Aliadiere
subs: Poom, Cesc, Rosicky, Clichy, Flamini
If Wenger decides to be a bit more experimental, he could try Walcott up front instead of Adebayor, with any of the 4 outfield
players on that bench coming into midfield. A semi against Spurs probably isn't the time to try this though.
The attacking options may look a bit limited but it's a strong bench, with Rosicky in particular available as a striking option if needed.
As for the visitors, the only update to
yesterday's news is that Michael Dawson is almost certain to play despite an infected toe, but Teemo Tainio is still out injured. Jermaine Jenas and Paul Stalteri played at the weekend for the first time in a while, and Martin Jol has said he's unsure about playing them again so quickly. But this is their best chance for a trophy this decade so it's hard to see him putting out anything but the strongest team he can.
