For the first time, Arsenal are releasing their review of the
season on DVD as well as video. The DVD is to be released on 23rd July, but you can order it now through our videos page and Amazon
will send it as soon as they get it in. The video tape version is already available.
As usual it features all the Arsenal goals from last season (and some
of the opposition's). But again as usual what you notice is what's not shown. For example, you might have thought
(and history will no doubt concur) that the most significant
features of our first couple of games last season were Patrick Vieira's controversial sendings off. But they're not mentioned
until he scores 2 against Charlton afterwards and the commentator says something about being in the headlines for the right reasons. Still, you'll be able to impress in years to come when they ask "what does he mean by that, grandad?". Although
the grandkids might get a bit frightened when the question
prompts an scary hour-long rant about Patrick Vieira (whether it's
a rant about the player's attitude or that of the refs/media remains to be seen...).
And also as usual, although the moments that stick in the mind might be the bad ones (Carew and Owen, 6 against at Old Trafford), the video/dvd reminds you that almost all of Arsenal's season was positive. Lots of great goals, many huge wins, Thierry Henry's amazing goal against Man Utd. In terms
of disk space, Michael Owen's winner at the Millennium stadium
was a tiny part of our season. Who knows, in years to come
maybe you'll even be able to describe it as a great goal (for my part, I had to turn away when that bit came on, it's just too soon).
There's also brief (very brief) coverage of the FA Youth Cup win,
and the Ladies FA Cup win (although I didn't spot any mention
of the other trophies they won last season).
But the reasons to treasure this tape/dvd will be the extra features, all of which will hold historic significance in years to come. Tony Adams on retirement, Ken Friar on Ashburton Grove,
but most of all a touching tribute to David Rocastle (and on that note, if anyone can provide a review of the Rocky tape listed on the videos page we'd be very grateful).
The DVD version also includes the 60 minute Highbury Highs tape
as a bonus feature. If you don't have this on tape already it's
worth considering the DVD, as it works out £8 cheaper than getting both tapes. Note that the DVD is region 2 encoded (Europe, Middle East, & Japan).
