Arseweb has set up a new affiliate deal with a company called Green Umbrella.
Following years of good experience on the clothing side of things, where we set up a deal with a small specialist company (SoccerBox) rather than go with one of the big ones, we have now established a similar arrangement with a video and DVD shop.
Green Umbrella have a similar history to SoccerBox, featuring long-established deals with football fansites including a
Newcastle site we know well at Arseweb (like us, they go back to the early days of the net).
Unlike larger companies, with them we will be able occasionally to offer competition prizes and special deals tailored to Arseweb readers. For the Newcastle site they have even been known to arrange for re-prints of unavailable titles. They also offer free P&P within the UK.
See Videos and DVDs page for the available range. Most recent titles include
- the Official 2003-2004 season review (a must for any Gooner)
- the Italian Job (last season's mauling of Inter)
- Centurions (a double pack celebrating Henry and Bergkamp both hitting the hundred-goals-for-Arsenal mark).
Please note that these are all PAL format tapes and disks. See the Videos and DVDs page for more about this and what it means, and for info for North American customers.
To kick things off, we have 4 copies of a rather special DVD to give away. This is the double-disk 1971 Cup Final DVD. But it's not just the full match, not by a long way. The disks also feature some of the 80s-style pre-match telly including a frankly hilarious visit to the players' children's pre-match tea party, and some post-match stuff including the open-top bus tour. There are also historical context features such as lists of the Top 40 at the time and what was in the news and on telly, interviews featuring Charlie George, Eddie Kelly, and Frank Stapleton including such things as memories of the day, where are they now, and best ever Arsenal XI. And to top it all off there's a printable pdf of the match day programme. This is what DVDs should be like and we're hoping there's going to be a lot more of the same from the Nostalgic TV people who made it.
In order to be entered into the draw we want you to send us a review of any Arsenal book or video or DVD that you've got. It doesn't have to be long, just anything that might be of interest to other Arsenal fans. A sentence will do, but the shorter it is the more interestign we'd like it to be. 2 prizes will be awarded to the best quality entries, but the other 2 winners will be selected randomly from all entries. If the item that you pick appears on our Videos and DVDs or Books pages then we reserve the right to use your comments on those pages (you will be credited if it is, so don't forget to tell us your name!). But whether or not your submission is used, or the item is available, we want it to be something of a quality that could be used, if the item were available. And so as not to exclude anyone, if you don't have any Arsenal books or videos, get some!. Sorry, capitalist pig side of me got free for a moment just then. What I meant to say was, if you don't have any Arsenal books or videos, just pick an item from our pages and tell us why you'd like to get that item in particular. Please note that empty email or those making no effort to even refer to an Aresnal book or video will not be considered as competition entries!
To enter this competition, please email us using this link, or email us in the usual way but with the subject line "Arsenal_DVD_competition". The closing date is Saturday September 4th.
