Many Gunners were worried by Sunday's papers, some of
which reported that Kanu wants to leave Arsenal already. Basically the line was that he has a reputation for not
sticking around long, which is a strange and unusual spin on the Kanu story!
Don't worry, the man himself has responded by saying that he is in the process
of thrashing out a new contract, very much with a view to staying.
"I do not wish to leave Arsenal. I am playing some of the best football of my career at Arsenal and I am delighted that the fans have made me feel so at home. It is true that my contract is
being reviewed... but I feel confident that this will be sorted out very quickly. I am negotiating for a house in London, which I hope
shows my further commitment to the club and I hope my family from
Nigeria will be able to join me in my new home soon."
Also, Arsene Wenger is reported to have said that Kanu is priceless and not for sale.
Some people will try to read a lot into the fact that a new deal
is being talked about so soon into his spell at Arsenal, given
that at the time of
his signing the club said Kanu was joining on a long-term deal.
But it has to be remembered that at the time his signing was seen
as a gamble on his health. Now that that issue seems to be in the past, and he's proven himself to be more than special, it's hardly surprising that terms are being reviewed. |
