At the end of last week, French papers were quoting the
surgeon who'd been looking at Emmanuel Petit's leg as
saying that it was impossible to rule out an operation which
would put him out for 6 months (see eg DNA, in French).
So it comes as something of a surprise to read today
(see Soccernet) that the treatment Petit received over the
weekend was such a success that Arsene Wenger is now saying he
"seems much better now and he has a good chance to play
tomorrow night."
Although it might seem strange to even consider risking
Manu in a game which is now virtually meaningless, only 4 days after hearing such worrying
words from his doctor, perhaps it woudl be wise to
have a look at him before Sunday's match at Tottenham. And if
Manu proves not to be ready for that, he would at least have
a chance for good rest before the next competitive match on
the 20th.
