Confusion regins over Freddie Ljungberg's dismissal in the
loss to Tottenham yesterday. Although at first it looked like ref David Elleray had been suckered by Justin Edinburgh's playacting
(unless a light shove to the chest really can cause someone to
collapse to the floor clutching his face), Elleray later said that it was for a headbutt to David Ginola is the ensuing melee.
David Ginola has now publicly stated that Ljungberg
did not head-butt him and he's happy to tell the FA so (see Soccernet). He was struck, but by an object thrown
from the crowd by a Tottenham fan.
Unfortunately Ljungberg's v-sign as he left the pitch may mean
that this news does not bring the lightening of his
sentence that he might hope.
