According to reports, Arsène Wenger has said that
Nigerian striker Kanu is on the verge
of agreeing a deal with Arsenal and could sign before
the FA Cup tie with Blackpool on Monday.
It's said that Arsenal are not going to break the wage structure for him, which will presumably put him around the
£25,000/week mark. M. Wenger made the point that at their
salaries, £20,000/yr or so doesn't make much difference to your lifestyle! Makes you sick doesn't it!
The boss also said that he will resist any attempts by the
Nigerian FA to take Kanu to a training camp in Spain at the
end of this month. Arsenal are already resigned to losing him for
a month, but are planning on having him available up to and
including the visit to Hillsborough on January 3rd.
We have to hope that Wenger's optimism is well-founded, and that
Kanu will accept Arsenal's offer despite the fact that
immigration offcials have still not granted residence to
his family. They are apparently coming over to London for Christmas (another reason to hope that he won't be in Spain then!).
