According to the press, Dennis Bergkamp could be set to make his long-awaited
return from injury in a reserve match at Highfield Road
tonight (see eg Sporting Life). AFCi reported yesterday that both Bergkamp and Tony Adams had
resumed training, and could both be in contention for a place against Bradford City on Saturday (although curiously no-one seems to be suggesting that Adams will play in tonight's reserve fixture).
Bergkamp hasn't played since he was substituted an hour into
the home win over Derby on 28th November. Adams has missed the last 4, during which
Gilles Grimandi and Martin Keown have both played out of their skins. Still, it's hard to see Adams being left out when he's fit.
If he comes through tonight alright Bergkamp will be bound
to feature in Saturday's squad. But Arsène Wenger has said that he will be a few matches away from full fitness, so
perhaps he'll stick with Henry and Suker as starters for now.
Meanwhile, City's plans to sign 2 new strikers in time for
Saturday has hit a snag as contract talks with Celtic's
Jorge Cadete have been postponed till later this week.
The other candidate is Stan Collymore. See
