Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams both played in a reserve friendly against Tottenham at London Colney yesterday.
Bergkamp, who looked a bit short of pace when he came on
for the last 20 minutes against Bradford on Saturday, played the first 70 minutes and scored a stunning 35-yarder in our 2-0 win (Hughes got the other).
Adams played the full 90 minutes as did Silvinho, also returning from injury. See eg this Soccernet report and this one too.
All else being equal, we might have expected Arsène Wenger to stick with the partnership of Grimandi and Keown at the back
against Liverpool on Sunday, as they've been very impressive recently and this
is a very important game to be risking a less-than-fully-fit Tony Adams in. But if it's true that Vieira is still
going
to be out, then bringing Adams back will have the additional
advantage of freeing Grimandi to move up alongside
Petit in midfield. Latest rumours though, are that Vieira may well
be back on Sunday after all.
According to this Sporting Life report, Wenger will make a decision
on Bergkamp Adams and presumably Silvinho too later in the week after he's had a chance to assess their reactions to yesterday's game. Marc Overmars is still struggling though and is
Marc's position means we've missed him more than anyone. So maybe he will be brought straight back into the team (or onto the bench) as soon as he's fit.
Thierry Henry will miss the home game against Southampton on Feb 26th after picking up his 5th booking of the season against Bradford, but Kanu will be back from Africa by then.
And just to stop us getting too optimistic about the prospect of
all our unjured players coming back (with the exception of poor
Matty Upson), SportLive have taken it upon themselves to stir up the "Bergkamp may leave" rumour again.
