The media's been full of talk of Celestine Babayaro, Chelsea's
Nigerian international, who had been expected back from the
African Nations Cup in time for their FA Cup romp against Gillingham on Sunday.
The latest news is that he's having trouble getting out of
Nigeria. He's been in the North of the Country resting an injury,
and although he was due to leave for Lagos and then London
on Monday, civil disturbances in the area have prevented this.
There have been demonstrations over
the introduction of Islamic law. At least 20 people have been killed in clashes between Christians and Muslims, so those
reports saying "riots" rather than "demonstrations" probably
have a point!
See this BBC News report for news of the disturbances, and this one for news of Babayaro. Hidden away at the bottom of the latter is the fact that our Kanu has also not been heard of since Nigeria's loss to Cameroon in the final on 13th Feb.
So, should we be worrying about this? Isn't Kanu from the north
too? Anyone seen him back in London yet? |
