As we feared last week,
the FA have hit Arsene Wenger with a massive punishment for his
alleged assault on a match official after our loss to Sunderland on the first day of the season.
Actually, we didn't expect him to be found guilty a week ago, but we didn't know then that Arsene would be refusing to help the FA out of a jam within a week. Not that there's any connection, ahem.
Wenger has a 12-match suspension, beating even Patrick Vieira's personal best, plus he's been fined 4 weeks wages.
M. Le Boss denied aspects of the evidence given by the officials, and argued that he was actually trying to minimise an incident which was already happening. But the panel believed the other guy. Arsenal will appeal.
See Sporting Life for more.
Meanwhile, Gilles Grimandi was handed a one match suspension for
his little stamp on Gary McAllister's hand in the farce against
Liverpool. Gilles will miss the Worthington Cup tie against Ipswich (snigger).
