The latest Arsenal player to confirm his commitment to the
cause is Kanu.
He's quoted today as saying
"My future is with Arsenal. I've been frustrated at times this season, but I still love the club and the fans [several at the
same time according to tabloid gossip, Ed] and want to
enjoy more good times with them. I don't want to leave." (see
eg Sporting Life for more).
Kanu's name was mentioned yesterday as a possible part of
an Arse-Barce transfer involving Emmanuel Petit coming in
the opposite direction. But we suspect that this was mainly
because Manu and Kanu rhyme so it made a "good" headline.
The way we see it, if Arsenal want Manu, then they'll get him.
The price wouldn't be prohibitive, and it seems likely that
he'd jump at the chance. But negative things Wenger has said about bringing players back to former clubs, and negative
things Manu said while he was with us, mean that the balance of probability is against it happening.
Less likely, we think, is the rumour that he could be going to
Tottenham. Hardly the best move Hoddle could make, bringing in
a player so associated with the Arsenal. And Manu himself should
be looking to move to a big club.
The same could be said for Guardiola, who's being strongly
linked with Tottenham today. It'd be interesting to see him
and Grimandi lined up against one another in the heat of a
north london derby (see this match report if you're not sure what I mean).
