Ominous quotes from Paddy in Japan...
"In my mind, it is very clear. I know what I want and I know what I will do."
"When I get back to London, I will have a meeting with the coach and the officials."
"Anyway, I will stand by my decision."
These quotes are from FootballBC. OneFootball have a different spin, suggesting that
he will make his mind up in that meeting with Arsenal officials.
Vieira is expected to return to London in the middle of next week. We could speculate all day about what this means. Does a
decision made before Arsenal have had a chance to act in
the transfer market suggest he's saying he's staying? or does it imply
the opposite? Has he been talking to Wenger at all while they';ve both been in Japan? Is there any reason at all to stop believing his oft-repeated assertion that he wants to stay at Highbury?
Or Arsenal's that they won't sell him (given which, the only
decision he could possibly make unilaterally would be to stay).
One thing's for sure, he's his own man...
"My mum always lets me make these decisions on my own."
Rumours in the English papers today suggest that Sol Campbell is
to be offered £100k/week by Arsenal, and that Vieira is to be
offered a new and comparable deal.
The sooner the better. It's a chicken-and-egg situation as
Vieira wants us to sign big names, but big names will be encouraged to sign by Vieira's commitment to the club.
