Despite a Tottenham website's attempts to stir things up
with rumours that Dennis Bergkamp is unhappy at the signing
of Francis Jeffers, and may be a target for Glenn Hoddle,
the great man (no, not Hoddle) has insisted he's
not going anywhere.
Dennis says on his website at Icons.com, "I know there's been
a little bit of speculation about whether one of last
season's four strikers will now leave, well I
can tell you I'm going nowhere."
The truth is that Bergkamp's happy with the Jeffers signing.
As an Arsenal man through and through, his main concern is
the same as ours: that the club buys players which will help it
compete for honours.
"Francis Jeffers is a great signing for
Arsenal. He is just the sort of striker we need, a
guy who does the simple stuff."
Dennis also comments on the fact that it's good to sign English
players, because the careers of Seaman, Adams, Keown & Dixon are close to their ends and he wouldn't want to see Arsenal without a core of Englishmen.
A fine point Dennis, but we've said this before and we'll say it again: it doesn't matter where you're from if you've got the
right attitude. Never mind their nationalities, Vieira and Bergkamp have both
got bundles of it. Now, let's see what Wiltord and Kanu are made of. |
