Shaggy-haired French international Robert Pires is said to be talking to Arsenal about a new contract. Quoted in today's Evening Standard, he says: 'I want to stay at Arsenal and extend my contract. I have put some proposals to the club and I am waiting to hear back from them.'

The quote doesn't specifically say - as some have interpreted it - that Pires is definitely committed to staying. It would be sound business sense to tease the club with a possible extension, on better financial terms naturally! - especially when he's in such a great run of form.

But you have to remember... we're at the start of a fortnight with no club football to speak of. Expect more vague (non) stories like this until normal footie resumes.
