According to The Beautiful game, Ray Parlour has recovered from his groin strain and is in contention to start tonight's match at home to Newcastle.
In addition, they say that Robert Pires could play too.
It was widely reported, after Bob came off injured during the
second half of the West Ham game yesterday, that he would be
out for around 3 weeks and miss all the "festive season" games. But Arsene Wenger is confident that Pires will come through a late fitness test.
With Fredrik Ljungberg out still with his back, having both Pires and Parlour also out would be a big blow. Gilles Grimandi would probably start together with maybe one or both of Edu
and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Wenger, however, may well go for a more attacking (and experienced) look, with Wiltord and/or Bergkamp as a third striker in a withdrawn/wide role.
Arsenal.com confirm and flesh things out a bit. They say that if Pires is unavailable tomorrow, and it turns out to be a bad strain, then he could be out for 3 weeks.
Jon adds:
Clarence Acuna, Christian Bassedas and Carl Cort are all definitely missing for Newcastle. Fitness tests will decide the selection of Shola Ameobi and Robert Lee. Kieron Dyer may make his first start for Newcastle since February, while Craig Bellamy returns from a one-game suspension. |
