Dennis Bergkamp failed today in his appeal against
the FA Cup sending off against Liverpool. He will miss 3 matches
starting with the trip to Everton this coming weekend.
We're going to be a bit thin on the ground that day. In defence
we'll be without regulars Keown (ban) Cole (injured) and
Lauren (Africa, unless Cameroon lose their quarter-final tonight in which case I guess he could be back). In midfield we'll be missing Pires (banned for 1 match for accumulation of yellow cards) Ljungberg (injured) and possible Vieira (came off early as
a precaution on Saturday, expected to be ok for Toffees game).
And up front Bergkamp and Kanu are unavailable (Nigeria are through
to the Nations Cup semi-final).
Although Wenger and Adams have made it clear that they don't want Tony to rush back, he did come through 90 minutes of reserve action
last week. So if he survives tonight's reserve match, there must
be a good chance that he'll be drafted in for Sunday. The same
could go for Jeffers, although at least if Henry and Wiltord are available Jeffers would be able start on the bench. Jeffers
didn't play last week though, so perhaps Aliadiere will get his
much-heralded-but-yet-to-appear opportunity.
It's not clear when Henry will have to face the music over his
behaviour at the end of the Newcastle game. Some reports at the weekend suggested it was being heard today or tomorrow, but today I've
seen reports saying a date has yet to be set.
Rupe adds...
Tonight's reserve match against Watford has been postponed (waterlogged pitch). The Standard reckons that a game might be specially arranged for later in the week, to try to help Adams get
match fit for the Everton game.
