Arsenal are a bit thin on the ground for the trip to
Goodison Park.
Dennis Bergkamp, Martin Keown,
and Robert Pires serve bans (and Keown's also injured).
There are also injuries to Freddie Ljungberg and Ashley Cole,
and Kanu and Lauren are playing in the African Nations Cup at
the weekend. Vieira faces a late fitness test on his hamstring.
The good news is that any of Adams, Dixon, Jeffers, and Seaman could feature, having all come through a specially arranged 2-2 reserve fixture yesterday (nice long-range goals from Edue and Sebastian Svard). While there's every chance that Wright will continue in goal keeping Seaman on the bench, the problems at the back could see Adams
and Dixon come in from the start. If Adams plays it opens up the possibility of Upson at left back (Gio could be needed in midfield).
And if Dixon plays it will of course open up the probability of seeing him
facing David Ginola again. Our fave Frenchman ended his
troublesome spell at Villa with a move to Everton just in time
for this match.
Jeffers will probably start on the bench, with Henry and WIltord
starting. But with the 2 Frenchman involved in an international
in midweek, there's every chance that they won't both play the
full game. Jeffers will be keen to get on and face his old teammates.
Everton also signed Lee Carsley from Coventry in time. Steve Watson is out with an ankle injury and Tomasz Radzinski is doubtful. Gravesen (who has apparently fallen from favour anyway), Pistone, and Alexandersson are also doubtful at least according to the injury list on the official Everton site. Scott Gemmill is suspended.
Rupe adds...
Saturday's news is that Patrick Vieira has been passed
fit. But while Seaman, Dixon and Jeffers are all in,
Tony Adams has not made the squad. Alexandersson has been
ruled out for Everton. Most pundits agree that Ginola is
unlikely to start, but Carsley will.
