France international forward Sylvain Wiltord is Arsenal's record signing at GBP 11 million, but many Arsenal fans have yet to be won over. Despite scoring freely for the club, and keeping out of the newspapers during long spells out of the first XI, Wiltord have many detractors in the stands. As if he cared, as long as his managers are big fans. "For me, he is a fantastic player," Arsène Wenger says. "He is not only a dangerous player but one who works for the team. He deserves a lot of credit for what he has done for us. A big factor is that, physically, he is now at the top level," the Arsenal manager says. His national head coach, Roger Lemerre is no less ecstatic: "For me Sylvain Wiltord is the perfect player to have in my squad." "First, he has ability. But also he always has the team in mind. He never complains, whether I ask him to be on the bench with the substitutes, play up front or as a wide man. He is a big asset to France," Lemerre explains. More at the Evening Standard website. |
