Arsenal have announced that Robert Pires will miss the rest of the season after sustaining cruciate knee ligament damage during Saturday's FA Cup win over Newcastle.
Pires will be sidelined for several months meaning that he will also miss the World Cup.
The news is obviously a bitter blow for both Arsenal and France. Pires has been in sparkling form this season and is a hot tip to take both major Player of the Year awards at the end of the campaign.
