According to this morning's Mirror, Arsene Wenger is
to offer new 1-year contracts to 3 members of our
ageing defence.
None of David Seaman, Tony Adams, and Martin Keown have
been anywhere near being ever-present this season, but they've all
played significant parts and looked as good as ever when they have.
Keown and Seaman seem certain to accept. Although Keown might
prefer a longer deal it's hard to see him leaving for Newcastle or
anywhere else if Arsenal want him to stay. And Seaman has indicated that he wants to keep playing as long as he can.
As for Tony Adams, who can tell? He'd clearly like more time
with his family and charity projects. We can only hope that with a bit of luck
and a lot of persuasion from Le Boss,
he'll be unable to resist another tilt at the Champions League.
But they don't reckon Lee Dixon will be staying. Like Winterburn before him,
Lee's appearances have been severely limited by a promising newcomer. He's said before that unlike Nige he's not particularly interested in playing his football anywhere else,
so perhaps he'll think it's time to call it a day if Arsenal
don't want him.
If Adams and Keown were to stay, we wonder how Matthew Upson would
view his prospects at the club.
