On his official website,
Dennis Bergkamp has rubbished stories that he is set to retire at the end of the season.
In those reports, which hit the media on Saturday (see eg ZoomSoccer for quotes), Dennis appeared to be saying that
he would definitely be returning to Holland when his current Arsenal contract expires (at the end of this season).
But Arsenal rubbished the reports earlier today, and now Dennis himsefl has used his official site to say, "I have certainly not decided that I will quit Arsenal at the end of this season. I've not made any decision at all about my future, it is far too early to think about that. I've always said that I will make my decision at the end of the season, when a number of options will be open to me, including staying at Arsenal."
And given the way that Arsenal are playing at the moment, "retirement is the last thing on my mind".
Bergkamp has said (apparently) that he has no desire to
play for a lesser club after leaving Arsenal, he wants to finish at the top. We should add that Bergkamp's form last season and
this is such that he could clearly at least compete for a
starting place with Arsenal well beyond the end of thie current season.
