Matthew Upson has been saying that he wanted to extend his
loan spell at Reading, but apparently Premier League rules prevent this.
For some reason, only players under the age of 23 are allowed to
enter into such loan arrangements.
"I have to leave Reading as for some reason I'm four months too old to sign an extension to the loan deal. It's poxy in my opinion, but it's one of those things that someone has invented for some reason.
I can go back to Arsenal and go straight out on loan somewhere else but I don't want to do that."
Upson told the Reading Evening Post that he wouldn't rule out a return to Reading, but first he'll be coming back to Arsenal (after the Royals' game against Pompey at the weekend) to see
if hard work (and injuries to Sol, Keown, and/or Cygan) will
get him into the Gunners side.
See the Post page for more quotes and praise for Matty's form.
