Shaaban blow means Arsenal hunt for keeper by Rupe

this is story 453 of 595 in this topic to date
Rami Shaaban was missing from the bench against West Brom in Boxing Day thanks to a broken leg (both bones of the right lower leg) suffered in training on Tuesday.

He joins 3rd choice keeper Stuart Taylor on the injury list, Stu has a broken finger so will presumably be back first. Rami spent Xmas eve evening having an operation, and will not be out of hospital till next week. See Arsemal.com interview with Rami... "I heard a crack but I didn't realise it was my leg".

Graham Stack is on loan in Belgium for the season, so young Craig Holloway was on the bench against West Brom and is expected to be so for the Liverpool game on Sunday as well.

So it's all looking very similar to last season.

According to Arsenal.com, the club will be looking to sign a keeper in the January transfer window. But Wenger has suggested that anyone who comes in will have to accept that Semaan is still very much number 1, for the rest of the season at least.

Current speculated targets include Roma's Francesco Antonioli & Nantes' Mikael Landreau, Derby's Mart Poom (on loan at Sunderland) and, bizarrely, Paul Robinson of Leeds.

Rupe adds...
You can add Recber Rustu to the list. Of course, most of the many keepers we've been linked with over the last few years will pop up again in speculation until something actually happens. But Rustu was one of our favourite targets so we're happy to pass this one on. The Turkish keeper, so impressive in the World Cup, becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Let's hope Fenerbahce wouldn't mind letting him go early.
