Fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane, who won the FIFA world player of the year award ahead of Thierry, was unplaced (As far as I'm aware, that is. I've been assuming that Henry isn't too bothered about meaningless awards. But if he is, hopefully winning this one will help make up for coming second in the last 2....

As French Sportsman of the year who is also a footballer, Henry failed to defy logic by going on to also be named French footballer of the year, an award voted for by France Football journalists and former winners. He got 162 points, 33 ahead of Zinedine Zidane in second.
