Arsenal's Thierry Henry has been named Footballer of the Year by the English Football Writers' Association. He recieves the award for the second season running.

Two weeks ago, the Premier League top scorer was voted Players' Player of the Year for the second successive season by his peers.

FWA chairman Gerry Cox told Reuters: "This time he has been the runaway winner.

"His skill, athleticism, teamwork and goals have set new standards in the premier league, but above all that it is about the way he plays the game that has captivated people throughout the country."
