Patrick Vieira's injury, sustained in the win over Villa on Saturday, has been confirmed as a twisted ankle.
He's limping badly, and has been ruled out of the trip to Greece to play Panathinaikos on Wednesday. With Gilberto out with his back injury, Edu is expected to fill in alongside Cesc. Flamini's good showing when he came on for Paddy on Saturday suggests that he will at least be on the bench, and that he should be adequate cover.
Freddie Ljungberg is expected to be fit to play on Wednesday, which could be very significant since Bergkamp's absence will mean Reyes playing up front, and Pires needed on the left.
But it seems quite likely that Vieira's injury will also keep him out of the game at Old Trafford next weekend.

On Tuesday, following a scan, Wenger has
said, "it looks much better than expected but it still looks like [Vieira] will be short for Sunday. He is not definitely out but I would rule him as having only an 80% chance of playing."
Rupe adds...
On Wednesday the reports say Vieira has an 80% chance of NOT playing on Sunday. It's not clear if this is a reassessment or just a correction of a previous misunderstanding. |
