He drove drunk (about 2 and a half times the limit), while disqualified, and uninsured (although, to be fair, it would have been hard to get anyone to insure him while he was banned from driving). He was caught early on Sunday morning after his car had displayed the tell-tale sign of dragging a lamp-post underneath it. Always a dead give-away, that one.

He had previously been banned for 16 months, last February.

He has been punished by being taken on loan at Birmingham for the rest of the season, and could feature in their match against Southampton on Wednesday if he hasn't been banged up by then.
