It's good news, bad news (and no news) time on the state of 3 Gunners back from international duty.
The good news is that Sol Campbell's hamstring problem, suffered during the England-Austria match and which saw him miss out on the Poland game last night, is now said to be a lot less bad than first feared. Wenger has ruled out his playing against West Brom on Saturday, but it is possible that he'll be back in time for the Champs League match against Sparta Prague in midweek.
Bad news though for his England team-mate Ashley Cole. Although initially it was thought that he would just need to rest for a few weeks, he has now had surgery, and is likely to be missing for 6 to 8 weeks. Step up Gael Clichy.
No news as yet on the knee problem picked up by Alex Hleb as he pulled the strings in Belarus's 1-0 win which dumped Scotland out of the running for the World Cup on Saturday. He didn't play in last night's final (and meaningless) group match, a loss to Norway. Arsenal hope to know more tomorrow after they've had a chance to assess him.
Thierry Henry's progress is said to be "remarkable", but Wenger says he wants to be cautious. Like Campbell, he'll miss the Baggies game, but we're keeping our fingers crossed for a return against Sparta. |
