The official site has revealed that an x-ray of Jose Antonio Reyes chest has shown today that he does not after all have a broken rib. He does have severe bruising that's likely to keep him out of the Man City game on Saturday, but fears that he'd be out for much longer have been mostly allayed.
I say "mostly", because my understanding is that it's rarely possible to completely rule out the possibility of a hairline fracture so quickly. But clearly this is good news of a sort that we'd come to assume was not going to be a feature of this season. That's because we'd swallowed all the crisis talk, oh yes.
So, as things stand Jose is the only striker in danger of missing this weekend's match. We're not sure about Sol Campbell but there have certainly been suggestions that he'd be back soon (the Arsenal.com injuries page is being more cautious now). That leaves Ashley Cole and Alex Hleb as long-term injuries and Freddie Ljungberg with a 2-3 week absence. Of course, any side would miss Freddie and Ash, but we do have others that can play in those positions. And Hleb isn't a guaranteed starter anyway. |
