Much have been said about Arsenal's lack of activity in the transfer market this summer. There seems to be a new goalkeeper in the squa before the end of this week, but many fans and the media had expected more from the FA Cup winners an Premier League runners-up. Still, manager Arsène Wenger and his scouts are still picking up young players from near and far. Swiss 'übertalent' Philippe Senderos has been signed for £2m months ago from Servette, and has joined the first team squad at only 18. American striker Danny Karbassiyoon has long been reported to have signed. The last teenager to be linked with an Arsenal deal is Czech striker Michal Papaopolous, who is ready to sign after obtaining a Greek passport through his paternal grandfather. The 18-year-old comes from Banik Ostrava, and has impressed during trials. Still, this Planet Football piece casts a small doubt on how far the proceedings really have come... Meanwhile, two players on trial have travelled to Austria with the first team squad, and that should be enough to make us speculate that the club is quite keen to sign them. They are featured at arsenal.com, and have already been playing in friendlies in England. Yaya Touré is Kolo's brother, only bigger, and more of a central midfielder. He's currently on the books of Beveren in Belgium, Arsenal's feeder club, where players like Graham Stack an John Halls spent last season on loan. The other triallist is 17-year-old left back Gaël Clichy of Cannes, who has impressed against Barnet and Peterborough. They are both in Arsenal's squad for tonight's friendly against Ritzing. |
