According to PlanetFootball,
16 year old Spanish prospect Cesc Fabregas has signed for Arsenal
on a 6 year contract.
Barcelona are said to be unhappy about Arsenal poaching their kid. Fabregas has come through the Catalan club's youth academy, but was not under contract to them. Some compensation ought to be due to Barcelona for this, but we're not sure if Arsenal are obliged to pay them anything. It's a loophole which Arsenal have certainly been accused of over-exploiting in the past (especially by French clubs).
Fabregas is a firm fixture in the Spanish U17 side, who are
currently playing in the World Championship in Finland. His father owns a house in London.
PlanetFootball do not tell us what position he plays in but, to be frank, the chances are it's not the same position he'll end up playing in once Wenger has got hold of him.
Rupe adds...
Thanks to Tomas Stenborg who checked the Fifa site for that U17 comp. It says he's a midfielder, born 4th May 1987. |
