Gio staying in Barca + this week's transfer nonsense by Rupe

Arsenal have been linked with a couple of right backs this week.

First there's Tunisian international Hatem Trabelsi. He's in dispute with Ajax over his contract there, apparently they have an option to extend by 2 years which he wishes to annul. According the News of the World, Arsenal are favourites to sign him, but only if he becomes available for free this summer.

And then there's out old favourite Lilian Thuram. Strong, versatile, French... he certainly fitted the bill when he was the top transfer rumour for a few years a while back, but perhaps he's getting on a bit now especially as Juve are likely to want more than £5million. There have been suggestions that Lauren will head back to Spain, and Thuram's ability to fill in at centre back might appeal to Wenger.

The latest keeper to be linked is Boro's Mark Schwarzer. Not a bad keeper at all, but on recent performances it's getting easier to believe that Wenger really does see Lehmann as the future.

Perhaps the most believable link of the week is that with Gerard Pique Bernabeu. The young defender, grandson of a former Barca VP and currently in France with Spain for the European U17 championship, will be attractive to many top clubs but Arsenal may have an ace in the hole as he's good friends with Cesc Fabregas.

Meanwhile, as expected, Gio van Bronckhorst looks set to make his move to Barcelona permanent. As Le Boss says, he's happy there, Barca are happy with him, and we've got Cole and Clichy at left back. Gio's loan to Barca was thought to have helped smoot over the transfer of Fabregas, perhaps further co-operation over Gio will help with a deal for Bernabeu.
