Wiltord prepares ground for moving up the road by Rupe
on 11/6/04 at 14:30
this is story 1086 of 1143 in this topic to date
Only last week Sylvain Wiltord was saying that he was hoping for a move away from the Premiership, since it would be so difficult to play for another English club after being at Arsenal.

But now it seems that he's paving the way for a move to Tottenham. New Spurs boss and current French coach Jacques Santini has made no secret of his admiration for the player, and there is speculation that he will even choose him ahead of Robert Pires during Euro2004, and Wiltord returns the compliment... "Jacques Santini appreciates my work... He has given me a lot of confidence. I now hope to repay him with what I do on the pitch."

Wiltord is now saying that while the move up the Seven Sisters Road would not be an easy move to make, "if I go there, it'll be something I'll be delighted to do". It doesn't sound like he's prepared to make a decision just yet though. He's got others things to think about for the next few weeks, and "I will see what happens after Euro 2004. The French national team is a good shop window. If we do well, I will have plenty of offers."

If he does make the move there will be inevitable nasty songs from Arsenal crowds, but one has to hope that things never reach the level of vitriol directed at Sol Campbell when he moved the other way. At the end of the day, Wiltord wasn't able to command a regular place at Arsenal. So it's us rejecting him rather than the other way round.
