Edu has confirmed that he won't be at Arsenal next season, which of course means he won't be playing for us again. Arsenal are very keen to find a buyer for him now, but it looks possible that this isn't going to happen.
According to Sporting Life Wenger has said that if he had to bet on Edu's destination, it would be Valencia. The player's agent Jean Gaspar has said, "In the next few days the club which wants to contract Edu will contact Arsenal to negotiate a transfer. After this we will reveal his destination," which makes it sound like an imminent transfer. But it could just be that Gaspar is talking about a deal for the summer. Valencia boos Claudio Ranieir has been wuoted as saying, "I would like to take Edu at the end of the season on a free transfer." Although Edu would presumably prefer to play, a free transfer deal is likely to be worth a fair bit more money to him, so perhaps he'll be taking a holiday for the next few months. He's a great player, and it'll be a loss on the pitch as well as financially. It'll be a particular shame ifthe lateness of his decision comes too late for Arsenal to sign a replacement for this season, but one has to say that the writing's been on the wall so they've been foolish if they really have been waiting.
Edu says on his official website,
"I´ve had some great times at Arsenal and only have good memories, as I´ve won titles, achieved success and have been well treated by the press, the fans and the other players.
I can say further that I´ve engraved my name in the history of Arsenal as I´ve participated in some important and historic moments, when we´ve achieved numerous trophies and made records.
I had many important times at Arsenal the first was the title that meant most to me (in 2002), because we beat Manchester United away from home and won the title contrary to the expectations of many.
The second, the away game against Celta last season, because of the great goals." |
