There was talk of such a move in January (just after Poom signed his permanent deal with Arsenal), when Nigel Martyn was sidelined with an ankle injury which required surgey. As Martyn was coming round from the anaesthetic, he was told that his replacement, former Gunner Richard Wright, had also picked up an ankle injury. Wright's came after a freak accident when warming up for the FA Cup tie against Chelsea on February 8th. He twisted the ankle when landing on a wooden board which had been left in the goalmouth (a sign saying "Not in use: please practise in the temporary goalmouth", marvellous!). Wright was replaced by Iain Turner for that match and the home game against Blackburn the following Saturday.

That was Turner's Premiership debut, but it was somewhat marred by his getting himself sent off after 9 minutes by handling a back-pass outside the box, despite the fact that there were no opposition players within dangerous range. Particularly stupid, given that you're not allowed to handle back-passes wherever you are.

He's only got a 1 match ban, the Premiership game against Newcastle this weekend, but Everton have been left with just keeper: 19 year old John Ruddy.

It would make sense for all concerned, if Poom goes up to Goodison for a bit. He could do with some action. Arsenal are expected to give the go-ahead so long as neither Jens Lehmann nor Manuel Almunia picks up an injury tonight. It's expected to be for a month so as to give the Toffees time to get at least one of their dodgy-ankled England internationals back, but with Arsenal inserting a clause saying that we can recall him at any time.

Everton's keeper crisis has been alleviated by the FA's agreeing bend the rules by letting them bring a loan player in outside the transfer window.
