Dutch press are linking us with Feyenoord
(and Dutch international)
defender Bert Konterman, saying that Arsenal representatives watched Feyenoord play on Friday and then enquired about the price. Villa and Tottenham are also
said to be interested. Feyenoord are denying any knowledge
but are thought to be willing to listen to offers (in today's
market he's the kind of player that'll probably go for a bomb) and are
rumoured to be scouting for replacements.
It seems unlikely that Arsenal would let
themselves get into a bidding war, especially as Real Madrid have made a bid of 10million US dollars which means maybe we'd end up
as the "Lazio" this time if we let ourselves get involved. Don't hold your breath.
See this Feyenoord site or this (in
Dutch) from De Telegraaf (partial translation below).
this fan page
(in English) has this picture,
but no info, and list him as a midfielder.
The De Telegraaf article includes the following quotes
from the player, "The attention flatters me, but I am slightly annoyed by it too.... Let's just wait for the clubs to reach an agreement." and the obligatory "I have always adored
the Premiership. Birmingham and London really appeal to me.
However the asking price is rather high".
thanks to Farooque for the tip-off and Michael
for the translation
