Minimal publicity for the news that Alberto Mendez is returning to Germany, on loan to lowly Bundesliga side SpVgg Unterhaching, until the end of the season. Unterhaching, from the outskirts of Munich, were promoted to the top flight last season, and are currently mid-table, with 2 wins and 3 defeats from 5 games.
He is due to face a medical on Monday, before the deal is confirmed. There is apparently no option to buy included in the contract, but Mendez told a Munich paper that he has Arsene Wenger's word that he can remain with Unterhaching, if he wants.
Mendez has been on the transfer list since he returned from AEK Athens. He was on loan to the Greek side the second half of last season, and made a few appearances but to little real impact. His first-team chances must now be in the 'snowball in hell' category, with Arsenal's reserves now boasting more internationals than a good number of Premiership sides.
But if Arsenal have not included an option to buy, we must have some plans for him, somewhere.
