At long last, Sylvain Wiltord is a Gooner. He was at Highbury to see Arsenal beat Charlton 5-3 in what by all accounts was a thriller - two for both Vieira and Henry, and Silvinho made it 5 with a solo special (see here).
In the official Arsenal.com statement, the club confirms it is a record transfer fee... but the exact sum is not disclosed.
'Sylvain is a player with great ability and attitude, I think he will fit in well here,' says Arsene. 'I have utmost respect for Arsène Wenger and I am very much looking forward to challenging for trophies with the Gunners,' says Sylvain. Hurrah.
Wiltord will wear the number 11 shirt vacated by the club's record outgoing transfer, Marc Overmars. Remember him?
