The knives are still out for David Seaman. PlanetFootball
have linked us with 2 new keepers.
First there's this article about Jerzy Dudek of Feyenoord. Dudek was
first linked with Arsenal back in February (although PlanetFootball proudly boast that they
told us about Arsenal's alleged interest in the Polish international in, errr, August).
Dudek, 27, was voted footballer of the year in Holland last season. Apparently negotiations to keep Dudek at Feyenoord aren't going well, and Arsenal are going to bid about £7million.
But Dudek is going to have to fight for his place because the latest from PlanetFootball is that Arsenal have expressed an interest in Shakhtar Donetsk keeper Yuri Virt. This
info comes from Shakhtar coach Victor Prokopenko. We suspect
that someone from Arsenal expressed "curiosity" in the
"maverick" and Vic got the
wrong end of the stick.
While Virt made some excellent reaction saves in the match at Highbury, he
flapped about quite a bit and hardly has the kind of cool presence which inspires confidence on the part of his defenders.
Prokopenko, however, is puzzled as to why Arsenal haven't
put in a bid already. "Could it be that the price tag for Yuri's transfer is just too high for them?" he says. Which raises the
question, just who is taking the piss out of who here?
Dream on, Victor.
Carry on, big Dave.
