As predicted 3 weeks ago, Danish defender Per Krøldrup has come back for another trial with Arsenal.
ArseWeb reader Peter Bjerre read this in a Copenhagen paper on
Monday, together with the news that the player would be signing
Arsenal shirts at a supermarket that day.
Peter hot-footed it to the shop, only to find that Per had left already, but Peter was able to grab a few words with Mr Finn Kokholm, Managing Director of B93 Copenhagen (Krøldrup's club).
The news from Kokholm is that Krøldrup is coming over
for 3 weeks (they're on a winter break in Denmark at the
moment). Arsenal want to play him in a couple of games, to see
how he copes in a flat back 4 (he's used to playing in a 3-man defence). In fact, he's already played, in Tuesday's game against Coventry. Anyone go to the game and care to comment on his performance? The AFCi report just says that the young defence
done well.
Kokholm also claimed that Arsenal are about to sign another Danish youngster from FC Copenhagen, but gave no details.
Danish paper Politiken also ran a long story on Krøldrup,
claiming that Arsenal see him as a long-term replacment for
Adams and Keown (what, both of them? must be good!)
They quote Krøldrup as saying that he suspects that Arsenal may offer him a 5-year deal, but he's realistic enough to realise
he'd be unlikely to become a regular for a couple of years.
He's optimistic because he feels that he didn't play all that well in some of the games that Arsenal scouts watched him in,
so he's got something in reserve to show them in the reserves.
Michael BastGaard also writes to say that B93 have declined offers for Krøldrup from Brøndby and FC Copenhagen, but have said that they won't stand in the way if a club of Arsenal's stature makes an offer.
Krøldrup is 21 and studies history at the University of Copenhagen. You can read more about him on previous newsreel items here and
here. The official B93 site confirms the trial but doesn't say anything more.
Their picture reveals a tall geezer with floppy hair.
Remember, you heard it here first.
In fact, so far you've only heard it here.
Many thanks to Peter and Michael and all our other correspondents who
help keep ArseWeb out in front.
