And the latest youngster to head for the Highbury exit door - it's 20-year-old midfielder James Harper, who joins Reading for a 'substantial six-figure sum' (according to an official statement from Reading - whose definition of substantial may not be what you're used to).
Reading boss Alan Pardew can't contain his excitement. 'I never expected him to become available, because I thought he would be a big player for Arsenal. When I found out he was available I had no hesitation - he has athleticism and an arrogance on the pitch that a modern footballer must have. He’s also highly ambitious, and that fits in well with me.'
Harper played three games for Cardiff City during a loan spell in January, two of which resulted in thumping wins. Reading don't point out that the third appearance was a 1-1 draw with Southend... with former Arsenal youngster Rhys Weston scoring a 93rd minute own-goal to give Southend a share of the points. |
