Bordeaux keeper Ulrich Rame claims that Arsenal have indeed
been tapping him up. But he says he's turned down a move to
Highbury because "Arsene Wenger insisted that David Seaman was staying another year".
As Fabian Barthez's deputy in the French squad, and with their
defence of that title coming up next year, getting regular
first-team football is of paramount importance to Rame. A fact
that's worth remembering when big-money transfers are talked of: there's a limit to the number of players that can be guaranteed
that many matches.
Of course, there is and probably will be no confirmation of
any of this from Arsenal.
