First off, Tokyo Gooner (and former Clock End regular) Yosuke
writes to tell us that Arsene Wenger has been playing down the possibility
of signing Nakata on Japese telly. On a highlights show (just
after the Confederations Cup semi in which Nakata had a blinder and scored the winner) he said "Nakata should stay with Roma,"
and went on to say, "I think Roma need him for their Champions League
campaign next season and he is too expensive."
Meanwhile Nakata himself said in a post-match press conference that he will
"research" Arsenal and his other possible destination, Parma, after the
end of the Italian season. His immediate priority after the Confederations
Cup final will be to get back to Italy to celebrate the end of
a successful season with Roma.
As for Sol Campbell, Tim Gilpin writes to tell us that Alan Brazil said on TalkSport this morning that he has it
on "very good authority" that the Campbell to Arsenal deal
is done and dusted. We'll see.
It looks like the Dudek deal is pretty much dead,
and that as we suspected Arsenal aren't haggling unnecessarily.
They just don't think he's worth what Feyenoord are asking,
Makes sense - if they think Dave would keep him out of the team why spend £10m? Anyway, Arsenal have their eyes on another keeper now. This comes from Bob Wilson, via ArseWeb reader
Ronan Dallender.
Wilson also reckons that there's a good chance Wiltord will leave, but not Vieira, who's more likely
to be made vice-captain than allowed to leave (even if he wanted to, which we still doubt). Against that, there's the widely accepted (somewhat gleefully accepted if you ask us) rumour
that he's about to put in a transfer request. Latest gossip from Juve (courtesy of the Mirror) is Davids + £10m. About time too, what's the mere matter of a
drugs ban been doing keeping Davids off the rumours list?
Also, the Anelka clan have apparently been on the blower again.
Arsenal are still not interested.
And finally, Villa defender Alpay has now "furiously denied" reports that he is looking for a move away from Villa Park.
