According to today's Guardian, Silvinho has finally made
his move from Arsenal.
As expected, he's said to have joined Spanish club
Celta Vigo.
What's curious is that cash-strapped Celta are said to
have only bought
a half-share in the player, with Arsenal retaining
the other half (worth £2.5million according to the paper,
which seems a little short). Celta have the option to
discuss buying the other bit of him when they find the
money, and Arsenal have first option if they decide to sell
their share.
Simon Porter writes to point out that the Daily Sport offer an explanation for the unusual deal.
"They were saying that Silvinho basically has a dodgy passport owing to
some false declarations when he applied and by getting him out of the country Arsenal's blushes will
be saved. The move to Celta is part of a process to get him qualified to play in Europe and that is why Arsenal have retained a 'share' in the player."
Of course, there's no knowing how much if any truth there is
in any of this.
There's no official word from Arsenal as yet.
